Wild game can be incredible and unbeatable as far as meat goes. There is something really amazing and special about knowing where your meat came from, how the animal was killed, and how the meat was processed. Venison is one of the less-popular red meats, but it can be one of the best in my opinion! I have found that cooking with game meats is often a different experience each time and a recipe can not always be used because the meat is not as predictable as other common store bought meats. This crockpot venison roast is not anything special compared to other meals already in existence, and it is not even really a true recipe, but I figured that someone out there, hunter or not, may find some meal inspiration from this post.
If you are like me, you love meat, but you also want to make sure that the meat you eat came from an animal that was well-respected and ethically treated. Hunting can allow you to know all about your meat.
If you are like me you also like meals that require minimal effort but still taste amazing. The number one reason that I love using my crockpot is the fact that you can pretty much dump and go.
You don’t even have to have or like venison to make this. You can use a beef, pork, or whatever type of roast you like. As for the veggies in this meal I tend to use whatever is in the fridge. This time around I had baby carrots, fresh green beans, and russet potatoes. Another time-saving bonus about this meal is that I use packaged brown gravy mix.
I know that you can just put your ingredients into the pot and go about your business, but if I am home and able, I like to make sure that all the veggies are pushed down and mostly covered by the gravy a couple hours into cooking just so that everything stays moist and flavorful.

The Ingredients:
- Roast
- Carrots
- Green Beans (Halved)
- Potatoes (Chopped)
- 2 Packages Of Brown Gravy Mix (I use the Simply Organic brand of brown gravy mix as it is gluten-free)
- Black Pepper
- Garlic Powder
I like to add black pepper and garlic powder because I think they pair well with the flavors of the gravy mix that I use, but you can feel free to add whatever seasonings you feel inclined to add.
I typically am preparing this meal for two so I just kind of wing it on the veggies. I add enough so that everyone will get their fill and there will be a little leftover for another meal or two.
The Steps:
- Place the roast in the crockpot
- Place your veggies around the roast
- Add spices on top of meat and veggies
- Mix up brown gravy packets (for me this was measuring out two cups of water into a bowl and dumping the two packets in and mixing until combined)
- Pour the liquid gravy over the meat and veggies
- Place lid on crockpot
- Turn heat to low
- Walk away for about 8 hours
- Enjoy!

I think that rolls are a great addition to this meal. I have yet to perfect any kind of gluten-free dinner roll recipe of my own, but I have found a favorite from Michelle at My Gluten-Free Kitchen – Here is the link in case you are interested in some super easy and actually delicious gluten-free dinner rolls! https://mygluten-freekitchen.com/gluten-free-garlic-parmesan-dinner-rolls/
