Gluten-Free Heaven Sweet Roll Mix: A product review

I am not usually someone who makes anything from a box or pre-made mix due to the unnecessary added sugars, fillers, dyes, preservatives, etc. that are typically added, but when I saw this sweet roll mix at a local store I had to give it a try. With an ingredient list that is readable and minimal I thought why not! On top of the rocking ingredient list, the preparation and baking instructions were also minimal and easy enough to follow.

Gluten-free baking is an art and converting gluten-containing recipes is often a task that takes many tries and trials. I am sad to say that gluten-free cinnamon rolls are something that I have not been able to nail down. I have tried time and time again. While the end product is usually good tasting and pretty to look at the texture is not where it should be. I was blown away by the rolls that came from this sweet roll mix. They turned out golden brown, yet still soft. The best part, they have that soft, almost gooey center that gluten-containing cinnamon rolls have!

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more Gluten-Free Heaven products! If you are someone who can not have gluten, you probably know how much mealtime can suck at times! I have gotten to a point in my gluten-free baking journey where I have perfected many recipes that can satisfy my cravings and make eating gluten-free fun and delicious, but there are times when you just really want some deep dish stuffed pizza or a nice fluffy and airy donut and have to go without. While this mix did not produce a giant fluffy Cinnabon cinnamon roll (one can hope!), these sweet rolls made me feel like I was eating a “normal” cinnamon roll and not some dried out, cardboard-like, tasteless wannabe. I would definitely recommenced this mix to anyone (gluten-free or not) who is looking for a satisfying, cinnamony, soft, delicious pastry treat!

For the frosting I made a simple icing with powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk! I, like most individuals would have much rather doused these buns in a decadent cream cheese frosting, but I could not justify going to the store for just cream cheese.

Icing

  1. 1 TBSP. butter (or butter alternative), melted
  2. 1 tsp. vanilla extract (I also like using maple extract)
  3. 2 C. confectioners sugar (powdered sugar)
  4. Milk (or milk alternative) I typically slowly add the milk until I get the consistency that I am looking for. If I had to put a measurement to it, I would assume its about 2-3 tablespoons.

I assume, from reading the packaging, that Gluten-Free Heaven is located in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Though, their website does not exclusively say (that I could find) where the brand is local to. https://www.glutenfreeheaven.com/
